DEVELOPMENT OF SCHOOL CULTURE THROUGHT
MULTICULTURAL EDUCATION

ABSTRACT
Various cases of violence, conflict and prejudice that occurred
between ethnic, tribal and culture has been threatened the nation integration.
School not only serves as a transfer of knowledge but also to transfers of
value. By instill and civilize social values in the community, the school is
expected to form the character for mutual respect and tolerance among human
beings. Process instill and civilize social values in schools is reflected in
the school culture. School culture can serve as reproduction, transformation,
instilling, and civilizing of social values in society. Whereas in the school
environment, there will be a lot of differences in the understanding of social
values due to differences in ethnic ,race and culture of each child. Therefore,
the development of school culture need multicultural education which can
accustom the students to understand the different values in each culture.
The method of writing this paper is qualitative descriptive through
the study of literature. Literature study can be obtained from various
literature sources. Then, the author collected data, process data, analyze data
and draw conclusions.
The development of the school culture through multicultural education,
specifically with introduction and understanding of cultural diversity, the
school can (1) create a physical environment (artifacts can be observed)
according to students' needs (2) creates an environment (artifacts that can’t
be observed) so as to create a harmonious school community that upholds the
values of pluralism and (3) create a beliefs values which conscious of
heterogeneity in a social group.
